How Xbox Live bans work

Microsoft decides on bans in Xbox Live and reviews appeals against them. Thus, an appeal goes to Microsoft's own support; it shall refer to the exact notice and the rule it names and explain what actually happened on the account.

How to appeal a Xbox Live ban

  1. Save the ban notice

The first step is to secure the Xbox Live ban message as a screenshot and as text, together with the date, the platform and any reference number or ID it shows.

  2. Find the rule it relies on

The notice usually names a rule. That rule shall be looked up in the terms Microsoft publishes, so that the appeal answers it instead of making a general complaint. Microsoft terms of service

  3. Collect what supports your side

Useful evidence includes purchase receipts, earlier support replies with ticket numbers and, for a device ban, when the PC or console was acquired and who else used it. A password, however, is never part of the evidence.

  4. Send one clear appeal to Microsoft player support

The appeal is sent while signed in with the banned account, as a single request that sets out what happened in chronological order, why the rule does not fit and which documents are attached. Official page: enforcement.xbox.com

  5. Keep the ticket and follow up with facts

The ticket number and the reply shall be kept. If Microsoft refuses, a second request makes sense only with new facts or a clearer explanation; repeating the first request adds nothing.

We prepare steps 2 to 4 for you: the appeal text, the rule it answers and where to send it, checked by a person before you get it. Start your Xbox Live appeal
